2007 Annual River Sweep a Success!
Tires, Mattresses and Kitchen Sink Collected

Good job!  Organizers of the fifteenth annual East Fork River Sweep say it was a success.  Over 250 volunteers, including: families, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, businesses, and community groups turned out for the Saturday, April 28 event that cleaned-up over 10 miles of waterways and shoreline at Sycamore Park in Batavia, Valley View in Milford, along with East Fork and Stonelick State Parks.

“Litter crews collected over 240 bags of trash,” said East Fork Watershed Coordinator Jason Brown.  “Also collected were 193 tires, 2 mattresses, a child’s rocking horse, 3 metal drums, and even a kitchen sink.  This combined community clean-up effort will make our watershed safer and more beautiful.”  In the picture, Paul Braasch (Clermont Office of Environmental Quality) and Dave Zagurny (East Fork Lake Park Manager, US Army Corps of Engineers) navigate a garbage barge during the sweep at East Fork Lake.

Special thanks go to Amanda Hills Spring Water, Woods Country Store, Kahr’s Carryout, Milford Tech Park, Kipp’s Gravel, Loveland Canoe and Kayak, ODNR-Scenic Rivers Program, Little Miami Inc., FMSM Engineers Inc., Buckeye United Fly Fishers, and the Valley View Foundation for their donations of food and supplies for the event.

The annual East Fork River Sweep was supported by Clermont 20/20 Clean and Green Collaborative, Clermont County Office of Environmental Quality, Adams-Clermont Solid Waste District, Clermont County Water and Sewer District, Clermont Soil and Water Conservation District, East Fork State Park, Stonelick State Park, Clermont Park District, and the Harsha Lake Army Corps Office.

THANK YOU EAST FORK RIVER SWEEPERS 2006

The clouds opened up and the rain stayed away on Saturday, April 29, 2006, for a spring cleaning in the East Fork watershed.  By our count, 270 volunteers turned out for the 14th Annual East Fork River Sweep, including families, area students, scout troops, 4-H clubs, and the Batavia Rotary Club.  Hard working crews cleaned up over 10 miles of streambank and shoreline at Sycamore Park in Batavia, Valley View in Milford, East Fork State Park and Stonelick State Park, collecting  243 bags of trash, 186 tires, a television, microwave oven, hot water heater, engine manifold, propane tank, 7 (55 gallon) barrels, 20 (5 gallon) buckets, barbed wire, numerous phonebooks, and a swing slide and steps.

For their efforts, volunteers were provided morning snacks and lunch, and received River Sweep t-shirts.  Volunteers also received the satisfaction of helping to make their watershed safer and more beautiful.  Thanks to all of you who gave up your Saturday to help.  You truly are members of the East Fork Stream Team.

We also want to thank all our East Fork River Sweep sponsors for their incredible support!  Please join us in expressing thanks to Meijer Eastgate, Chiquita Bananas, Amanda Hills Spring Water, Woods Country Store, Kahr’s Carryout, Loveland Canoe and Kayak, ODNR-Scenic Rivers Program, and Little Miami, Inc.  for their donations of food, supplies and canoes for the Sweep.  This event would not have been possible without the support of Clermont 20/20 Clean and Green Collaborative, Clermont County Office of Environmental Quality, Adams-Clermont Solid Waste District, Clermont County Water and Sewer District, Little Miami River Partnership, and Clermont SWCD.  Thanks to Buckeye United Fly Fishers for providing lunch at Sycamore Park, Valley View Foundation for feeding the masses at our Milford site, and State Parks staff for providing lunch at East Fork and Stonelick Parks.  The staffs of East Fork State Park, Stonelick State Park, the Clermont County Park District, and the Harsha Lake Army Corps Office did much of the behind-the-scenes work that allowed this event to be so successful.  Thank you all.
